Do you have the 4MP cameras? The v5.4.4 firmware release fixed issues with alarm notifications received via iVMS 4500 from these cameras - you might want to give this a try to see if it resolves your issue.

If you connect a monitor and mouse to the NVR, you can upgrade the cameras via the NVRs local GUI. Connect a USB stick to the NVR with the camera's firmware loaded in the root directory. Navigate to Menu >> Camera and click on the Upgrade blue arrow for any camera you want to update.

Even the shutdown command via local menu doesn't actually shut the NVR down - it still awaits you to physically power it off once it gives you the go ahead. Whilst Hikvision recommend properly shutting it down, it's so roundabout to do so and it's not too critical if you're unable to.
